Pete Mosedale: Growth and Property Management

Pete Mosedale joins Kevin Turner in this episode of Rockend Rockstars to discuss how he utilises property management to run a growth-focused business, and how technology helps them provide a seamless transaction that make people feel good about using their services.  

Peter is the founder of Upstate, a leading prestige realty brand based in one of the best areas in Sydney, Northern Beaches. They’re the largest real estate company in the region and thanks to their thorough understanding of the market, also offer great service and favourable sale prices.  

Sacrificing for growth 

Pete and his team are focused on rent roll growth. “Property management is the core of any good real estate business” he says and fuelling the growth of that rent roll is his highest priority to maintain a strong business. He and his business partner sacrifice profit for growth, and even “tolerate” low sales months, because they know that the sales team also fuels the growth of their property management business.

The future of property management is “feel good”

Pete looks for staff that are customer service-centric. Legislation and technical property management skills can be taught, but a strong customer-first mind-set can’t be, and as he believes the future property manager will be a relationship manager first and foremost, this is what he looks for in potential staff. “We are no longer the gatekeepers of information, instead, we are here to provide seamless a service that makes people feel good. And people are happy to pay for this”.

Process improvement is key 

Another focus of the Upstate team is process improvement, and technology plays a big part in this. The more they can utilise new tech like AI to automate mundane tasks, the more time they can spend managing those all-important relationships and delivering world-class service to their customers.
